Jazz is timeless and universal. It is played and heard in all corners of the world, and the Silver Coast, or Côte d’Argent, of France is no exception: in fact, it provides the perfect setting for elegant and convivial jazz.

The Silver Coast Trio is all of that and more, as it is based on a friendship and complicity of over thirty years between pianist Philippe Petit and double bassist Didier Vaudron — a musical connection that could not fail to seduce Australian singer and tap dancer Wendy Lee Taylor, soloist at the Lido de Paris for fifteen years.

The musical style of the Silver Coast Trio is influenced by the great tradition of jazz, covering numerous eras and styles through essential standards composed by greats such as Cole Porter and George Gershwin, and amplified by the renowned interpretations of artists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Frank Sinatra and Fred Astaire.

The trio can adapt easily to different settings, from the cosy atmosphere of a hotel bar or restaurant to a concert hall. For major events, or when the nature of the event requires it, the trio can easily include a drummer, at which point it becomes the Silver Coast Quartet.

Wendy Lee Taylor — Vocals & Tap
Born in Melbourne, Australia, Wendy Lee Taylor was enchanted by musical theatre from an early age. She began dance classes at the age of five and quickly started learning songs from the great standards repertoire, including titles by Cole Porter, George Gershwin and Irving Berlin. She began her Parisian career at the famous cabaret Le Lido, first as a dancer and later as a singer, performing six nights a week for fifteen years.

During this time, she also performed in Parisian jazz clubs and at festivals around France. She has recorded several albums, including Remembering Fred Astaire, and regularly performs with her quartet, as well as with the Caveau de la Huchette touring show Tribute to La La Land. With Wendy, charm and swing unite in the tradition of the great jazz vocalists.

Philippe Petit — Piano / Hammond Organ
Born in Bordeaux, France, Philippe Petit moved to Paris in 1977, where he was signed by Barclay Studios as a singer-songwriter and pianist. He became known on the local jazz scene, playing in many of the capital’s jazz clubs, including Petit Opportun, Jazz Club Lionel Hampton, Caveau de la Huchette, Le Bilboquet, Duc des Lombards and Sunset-Sunside.

An accomplished all-round pianist and organist, Philippe Petit remains a continuing presence on both national and international jazz scenes, having performed throughout the world, including Europe, the United States, Africa, Asia, Australia and South America. Over the years, he has accompanied numerous soloists, including Arnett Cobb, Bud Shank, Scott Hamilton, Houston Person, Eric Alexander, Dany Doriz and Marc Fosset.

Didier Vaudron — Double Bass
After his Parisian debut, Didier Vaudron joined Philippe Petit and Francis Bourrec to form the group Ananda. He also played in quintet with Denis Leloup and Antoine Illouz, and toured with Louisiana Red.

He moved to Bordeaux in the 1980s. An accomplished sideman, he has accompanied Georges Arvanitas, Hal Singer, Guy Laffitte, Marcel Zanini, Claude Guillot, Philippe Léoget, François Faure and many others. He has performed on numerous regional stages, including the Marciac Jazz Festival with Philippe Léoget and Richard Hertel.

Le jazz est une musique intemporelle et universelle. De ce fait, il se joue et s’écoute sous toutes les latitudes, et la Côte d’Argent ne fait pas exception : elle offre même un écrin de choix à ce que le jazz a de plus élégant et chaleureux.

Le Silver Coast Trio est tout cela et même plus, car il est basé sur l’amitié et une complicité de plus de trente ans entre le pianiste Philippe Petit et le contrebassiste Didier Vaudron, connivence qui ne pouvait que séduire la chanteuse et claquettiste australienne Wendy Lee Taylor, chanteuse du Lido de Paris pendant quinze ans.

La musique du Silver Coast Trio est issue de la grande tradition du jazz, parcourant les époques et les styles à travers les grands standards du genre composés par Cole Porter et George Gershwin, et magnifiés par leurs plus grands interprètes : Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Frank Sinatra et Fred Astaire.

Le trio peut passer sans difficulté de l’ambiance feutrée d’un bar d’hôtel à une soirée privée, d’un dîner-concert à la scène d’un festival. Pour les grandes scènes, ou lorsque la nature de la prestation le demande, le trio peut très facilement accueillir un batteur et devient alors le Silver Coast Quartet.

Wendy Lee Taylor — Chant & claquettes
Née à Melbourne, en Australie, Wendy Lee Taylor est fascinée dès son plus jeune âge par les comédies musicales, très populaires dans le monde anglo-saxon. Très vite, elle prend des cours de danse et de chant et aborde avec bonheur le répertoire des grands standards du genre, signés Cole Porter, George Gershwin ou Irving Berlin, pour ne citer qu’eux.

C’est en tant que danseuse puis chanteuse que cette belle Australienne débute sa carrière parisienne au célèbre cabaret Le Lido, où elle se produira six soirs par semaine pendant quinze ans. Pendant cette période, elle se produit également dans les clubs parisiens et enregistre plusieurs albums, dont Remembering Fred Astaire. Avec Wendy, le charme et le swing se conjuguent avec bonheur dans le plus pur respect de la tradition des grandes voix américaines.

Philippe Petit — Piano / orgue Hammond
Né à Bordeaux, Philippe Petit s’installe à Paris en 1977 et travaille aux studios Barclay comme pianiste et compositeur. Il commence alors à se produire dans les clubs de jazz de la capitale : Petit Opportun, Jazz Club Lionel Hampton, Caveau de la Huchette, Le Bilboquet, Duc des Lombards et Sunset-Sunside, entre autres.

Pianiste et organiste tout terrain, Philippe Petit est depuis de nombreuses années un accompagnateur et un soliste très présent sur les scènes du jazz en France, mais aussi à l’étranger : États-Unis, Amérique du Sud, Afrique, Europe et au-delà. Il a accompagné, entre autres, Arnett Cobb, Bud Shank, Scott Hamilton, Houston Person, Eric Alexander, Dany Doriz et Marc Fosset.

Didier Vaudron — Contrebasse
Après des débuts parisiens, Didier Vaudron crée avec Philippe Petit et Francis Bourrec le groupe Ananda. Parallèlement, il joue en quintet avec Denis Leloup et Antoine Illouz, ainsi qu’en tournée avec Louisiana Red.

Il s’installe à Bordeaux dans les années quatre-vingts. Sideman accompli, il travaille avec Georges Arvanitas, Hal Singer, Guy Laffitte, Marcel Zanini, Claude Guillot, Philippe Léoget, François Faure et bien d’autres. Il s’est produit sur de nombreuses scènes régionales, notamment au Festival de Marciac avec Philippe Léoget et Richard Hertel.
