In 2017, Damien Chazelle chose the Caveau de la Huchette to symbolise the emblematic dream jazz club in his award-winning film La La Land: a club where the music is vibrant, where dancers swing along with live musicians, and where jazz fans from all over the world come to soak up the intoxicating atmosphere.

Chazelle’s dream club is, however, a reality. In the heart of the Latin Quarter in Paris, the Caveau de la Huchette is real and swinging seven nights a week. It is the oldest running jazz club in Paris and one of the rare venues where one can dance to live jazz.

To celebrate its 70th birthday in 2017, the club released a triple album, Anthologie du Caveau de la Huchette. Owner and renowned vibraphonist Dany Doriz also put together a top-notch selection of the club’s regularly performing musicians to present Tribute to La La Land.

As well as the film’s featured songs “Another Day of Sun” and “City of Stars”, the show pays tribute to numerous facets of swing jazz: blues, boogie-woogie, swing, tap dancing and, of course, the crooners. Tributes include Lionel Hampton, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Fred Astaire, Frank Sinatra and a spectacular drum duet.

Performing artists include Dany Doriz on vibraphone, Ronald Baker on vocals and trumpet, Wendy Lee Taylor on vocals and tap dance, Jumpin’ Jeff Hoffman on guitar and vocals, Philippe Petit on Hammond organ and piano, Pascal Thouvenin and Boris Blanchet on tenor saxophone, Didier Dorise and Jean-Philippe O’Neil on drums.

Guest artists may include Tony Sola on tenor saxophone, Nicolas Grymonprez on trombone, Olivier Defays on tenor saxophone, Sax Gordon on vocals and tenor saxophone, and, when the occasion permits, the Dany Doriz Big Band.

Pour son film La La Land, récompensé 178 fois, dont 7 Golden Globes, 3 BAFTA et 6 Oscars, Damien Chazelle a choisi le Caveau de la Huchette pour représenter le club de jazz par excellence : celui où le swing règne en maître et où l’on danse chaque soir sur de la musique live depuis 1946.

Situé au cœur du Quartier Latin à Paris, le Caveau de la Huchette est une véritable institution et l’un des rares endroits où l’on peut encore danser sur du jazz joué par un orchestre live.

En 2017, le Caveau a célébré ses 70 ans avec la sortie d’un triple album, Anthologie du Caveau de la Huchette, comprenant une version de la chanson emblématique de La La Land, “Another Day of Sun”, enregistrée par le célèbre vibraphoniste — et propriétaire du club depuis 1970 — Dany Doriz, accompagné de plusieurs des musiciens les plus emblématiques du Caveau.

Pour célébrer 70 ans de swing, et en hommage au film de Damien Chazelle, le Caveau de la Huchette part en tournée avec un spectacle hommage aux grandes légendes du jazz : Tribute to La La Land.

Le jazz qui swingue y est décliné sous toutes ses formes : blues, boogie-woogie, swing bien sûr, à travers les musiques de Lionel Hampton, Duke Ellington et Count Basie, sans oublier le jazz vocal avec des hommages à Fred Astaire et Frank Sinatra, entre autres, ainsi qu’un spectaculaire duo de batteries.
